Rod Emory
Rod's passion for Porsche and motorsports runs deep, literally from birth: his parents brought him home from the hospital in a 911, and his childhood in Trabuco Canyon, California was steeped in competition and automotive culture. His grandfather Neil Emory co-founded Valley Custom Shop in Burbank during the late 1940s, pioneering American car customization, while his father Gary continued the family legacy through Parts Obsolete, a Porsche parts business. By age 14, Rod had built his first Porsche, a 1953 split-window coupe, which he raced in vintage classes for nearly two decades. Working alongside his father, he developed a signature design philosophy: street cars that were designed to go fast and look fast standing still, blending race-inspired aesthetics with Porsche 356 and early 911 platforms. In 1990, they formalized their approach under the "356 Outlaws" brand.
Rod met Amy in Utah in 1994, and together they created Emory Motorsports in the late 1990s to serve the vintage racing community. Operating from Seattle to Daytona Beach, they built dozens of competition-ready cars while mentoring owners to race competitively. Their children, Zayne and Jayde, were raised in the workshop, with Zayne pursuing acting while remaining hands-on in car builds, and Jayde managing the business operations.
Today, Rod's team operates from North Hollywood, where they continue restoring and building original Porsche 356s into highly coveted Outlaws, Specials, and RSs that merge modern performance with period-correct design. Their portfolio includes the meticulous restoration of 356/2-063, the 1951 Le Mans-winning Gmund SL, which debuted at Pebble Beach in 2016. Having built approximately 300 Outlaws, Emory Motorsports has established itself as a premier builder of rolling works of art with performance rivaling cars decades younger.
