This Tour d’Elegance is unlike any other, and will be a spectacle not worth missing. The Claiborne Pell Newport Bridge is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, and our Tour will be an integral part of the celebration. All of the registered Concours* cars who have chosen to participate in the Tour, will depart from nearby Jamestown, Rhode Island, with a staged photo on top of the closed bridge. From there, the cars will parade down popular Thames Street as they head to Fort Adams State Park for a brief stop, where we will host one of the biggest Cars and Coffee events of the season, inviting the public to view these beautiful cars with the Newport Bridge as a backdrop. The cars will then continue the Tour by driving along picturesque Ocean Drive towards the Audrain, where the public is again invited to admire these stunning vehicles on closed Bellevue Avenue. Owners and drivers will be treated to a special lunch at the landmark Newport restaurant, LaForge Casino Restaurant, while the public enjoys the local vendors, food trucks, and more.
*Only registered cars that are competing in the Concours d’Elegance are permitted to participate in the Tour d’Elegance
An icon of the State of Rhode Island, the Claiborne Pell Bridge is an important gateway to one of the most beautiful, historic cities in America. Built to replace a ferry service, the bridge greatly contributed to a surge in tourism following its opening. Construction began on April 5, 1966 and the bridge officially opened to traffic on June 28, 1969. Owned, operated and maintained by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, its overall length is 11,247 feet and the East and West towers rise dramatically 400 feet above Narragansett Bay.
